After a harrowing drive through the mountains (we'll get used to this, though, by the end of the trip) we arrive in the Coromandel.It's beautiful here! Jen has hooked us up with a bach (pronounced "batch," it's the Kiwi term for a beach cottage.) but this is sooo much more than I had expected. This is going to be the best birthday ever! This place is amazing. It's up a huge hill and consists of three floors of living space but it has an amazing view of the water from every room. When we first arrive we're like "Oh my God, this is awesome." The down side is, Jen's car is having some problems, but once she brings it to spend the weekend at a local repair shop and there's nothing we can do about it in the meantime, I think the awesomeness of the bach helps us all stop worrying about it for a while.
We settled in with some wine and cheese on the porch for a nice leisurely night of chatting, BBQing (of course there's a grill, it's like the national cooking surface) and enjoying the view.
This is going to be the best birthday ever.
